In today's world it seems the only way you can fully comprehend the magnitude of a tragedy is through numbers; number of people fleeing, number of buildings destroyed, number of lives lost. However in doing so we, as readers, distance ourselves from the humans who live in through these events.

On the 10th of May 2021 Israel bombed Palestine, more specifically: Gaza. News sources estimate that 34,000 civilians had their homes destroyed and 200 people were killed (59 of them children). However, these numbers do not give you any insight into what it is like to live in Gaza. For most of us we will never hear their stories. I wanted to change that.

Over the last couple of months Hind and I have been collecting stories, poems and pieces of art from those who have spent their lives living in Gaza. In the hopes that people outside their blockaded city will be able to understand what it’s like.

With any topic like this it is far easier to look away, it is far easier to distance yourself. I implore you as a human being, please don’t. The world can be a scary place but everyone has the power to make a difference, I urge you to use yours.
